Up and Running

Runners in junior age groups (U11, U13, U15, U17) will gain points which will count towards the Junior Championship, with a trophy for the club with the highest number of points.

Points gained for their club by senior/vet runners over the season, will determine the Division champions and the promotion and relegation issues. Junior points will NOT be added to a club’s senior points score to decide these issues. There is a trophy at the end of the season for the highest scoring team in each Division.

For the end of league junior and senior division places please see the relevant post in the RESULTS pages

Two to be promoted and two to be relegated at the end of each season.

League scoring System (Seniors)

Rules

  1. Each club has only one team which scores in each of the Senior events.
  2. A full team is made up of 4 runners for Female (U20, Sen and all FV categories) and MV65+ (all MV65+ categories) and 6 runners for Men (U20, Sen and all MV categories up to MV55).
  3. A full team always beats a part team, so, for example, a senior men’s team of 6 always beats a team with 5 runners; a team of 5 always beats a team with 4, and so on to the last scoring team, which probably has a single runner.
  4. All full teams score an additional point over incomplete teams.

Scoring procedure

  1. The position score of all the runners in each of the teams are sorted in decreasing order and the required number of positions are totalled to give the team score (1st placed runner to 6th placed for U20/snr/vet men and 1st placed to 4th placed for the U20/snr/vet women and MV65+).
  2. If two teams have the same number of points, the team with the highest placed (lowest position score) LAST runner beats the other team.
  3. Teams are sorted on number of runners, then each team size is sorted on the points scored, with the least number of points bottom of the list.  The lowest team size / highest points scored get ONE team point. The next to last gets TWO, and so on until the top team is reached.  If this team has a full number of scoring runners, and all other complete teams, they get an extra point. In most cases this means that the top teams get one more point than the number of teams.
  4. All the team scores for each club are added together to get the club’s score for the fixture.
  5. The club scores for the 4 fixtures are added together to get the club’s total score for the whole season.
  6. The points determine the promotion and relegation issues between divisions.
